House of the Dragon S1E7 Power Rankings

Posted on October 6, 2022October 6, 2022 By Yaseen

1. Queen Alicent Hightower

Since the children are still young, their power will be grouped with their mothers. Aemond lost an eye, but he bonded with Vhagar. As Otto crudely points out, this is ultimately a small price to pay. Dragons are the nuclear weapons of the time, and Alicent’s side just acquired the biggest and deadliest one. She won’t face any consequences for her attack on Rhaenyra, if anything this vicious side of her coming out is a positive, again as Otto points out. Aegon is still the favorite to ascend the throne, so this was a positive episode for Alicent.

2. Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen

Rhaenyra is beat to first place by a razor thin margin. Despite significantly strengthening her position, I find it unlikely that she will be the one to ascend the throne in the immediate aftermath of Viserys’ death. She will have to put up a fight if she’s to ever wear the crown. With that said, now that she’s married to Daemon, she will have the resources to do so.

3. Prince Daemon Targaryen

By joining forces with Rhaenyra, Daemon strengthens his position as he might one day become King Consort should she become Queen. We’ve seen glimpses of how devastating Daemon can be when he’s motivated, and just about every event that occurred in this episode is motivation for him in some way or another. Fathering Rhaenyra’s child will stoke his fire even further, should that transpire. The question that will simmer in the background as the fight for the throne ensues is as follows: Is Daemon willing to go through Rhaenyra to take the top spot?

4. Ser Otto Hightower

As expected, Otto is back as Hand of the King and he hasn’t missed a step. At this point, scheming and politicking is like breathing air for him. For this reason, and by association, Otto makes a swift return to the top five.

5. King Viserys Targaryen

The utter lack of respect shown to Viserys, his complete inability to gain any semblance of control over his own family, and his fading life force see him drop to his lowest level since the start of the show. And barring an unlikely miracle, Viserys will never recover his position at the top.

6. Larys Strong

Larys was ignored by Alicent for much of the episode, but she finally acknowledged his worth towards the end of the episode, thus solidifying their alliance.

7. Ser Criston Cole

Cole rises a few spots by association and because he didn’t have as bad an episode as those under him in the rankings.

8. Lord Corlys Velaryon

Corlys was completely disrespected in his own castle on the day of his daughter’s funeral. His relationship with his wife is falling apart. To top it off, he also lost his only remaining child.

9. Princess Rhaeyns Targaryen

See above.

10. Tyland Lannister

No appearance.

11. Lord Jasper Wylde

No appearance.

12. Lord Lyman Beesbury

No appearance.

13. Grand Maester Orwyle

No appearance.

15. Ser Harrold Westerling

Harrold Westerling moves up a spot because for the first time, it appears as if he might get involved in the game. I imagine Criston Cole will take his place as Commander of the Kingsguard should Aegon ascend the throne, but that might end up being a net positive for him in the long run should he join forces with a victorious Rhaenyra.

16. Prince Reggio Haratis

No appearance.

17. Lord Caswell

No appearance.

18. Laenor Velaryon

By faking his death and running off with Qarl, Laenor has essentially given up all his power.

19. Ser Qarl Correy

See above.

N/A. Prince Aegon Targaryen

Current favorite to succeed Viserys as King.

N/A. Princess Helaena Targaryen

Daemon’s other daughter.

N/A. Jacaerys Velaryon

Rhaenyra’s eldest son.

Rhaenyra’s second son.

Rhaenyra’s newborn son.
