The Rings of Power S1E5 Winners and Losers

Posted on September 25, 2022December 31, 2022 By Yaseen

Winners

1. Adar

Adar’s forces march on towards the watchtower in significant numbers. The tunnels are complete, so the only remaining obstacle between Adar and Sauron’s hilt is a group of weak humans in a watchtower led by a single elf. His plan to send Arondir back with a message to the humans worked to perfection as well, as half of them abandoned the tower and swore fealty to him.

2. Valandil

Valandil isn’t suckered into forgiving Isildur and he doesn’t let the setback from the previous episode stop him. Instead, he proves himself to Elendil by being the only one capable of “drawing blood” from Galadriel in training. This earns him a promotion to lieutenant on the expedition.

3. Elrond

Elrond finds himself stuck between a rock and a hard place: he gave an oath to Durin not to tell anyone about the mithril, but the Elves need to acquire mithril in order to survive. Through honesty and a bit of plot hole magic, Elrond manages to navigate this delicate situation to preserve his friendship with Durin and to give the Elves a chance at survival.

Losers

1. The Elves

The light by which the Elves live is fading and the only thing that can save them is a previously undiscovered ore that’s buried deep in a dwarfish mountain. Prince Durin might be willing to help, but I doubt King Durin will be as easy to convince. They’ll likely come to some sort of agreement, but I’m sure it’ll be at a great cost.

2. Bronwyn

Bronwyn’s lack of authority leads in part to the defection of half the humans at the watchtower. But what really makes her a loser in this episode is her weak will that almost leads her to surrender if not for Arondir’s presence.

3. Kemen

Kemen has got to be the biggest idiot on this show, and that’s saying something. This dude just blew up a couple of his own people’s ships to stop the expedition only so he can gain Earien’s approval. In the end, it was all for nothing, as the expedition left anyways.
