House of the Dragon S1E3 Power Rankings

Posted on September 8, 2022September 17, 2022 By Yaseen

1. King Viserys Targaryen

Viserys reclaims top spot thanks to his successful marriage to Alicent which finally bore him a healthy son (and there’s one more on the way).

2. Queen Alicent Hightower

After becoming queen, Alicent has quickly delivered the King a son and is due another child soon. To put it bluntly, she has done her part. What’s interesting is that she seems to genuinely care about Viserys and Rhaenyra, and she has the wisdom to withstand her father’s manipulation. She definitely looks like a wild card right now.

3. Prince Daemon Targaryen

In the face of humiliation via brotherly support, Daemon goes full Targaryen and finishes the Crabfeeder off himself before the King’s reinforcements can arrive. He’ll now return to King’s Landing as conqueror and noble defender of the realm. Talk about a turnaround.

4. Ser Otto Hightower

Otto’s losing his grip on Alicent and while he’s still managing to walk a fine line playing the King’s “friend,” I wonder how long he can keep this up? It certainly felt like his suggestion to marry Aegon to Rhaenyra ticked Viserys off a bit, although definitely not enough considering they’re SIBLINGS.

5. Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen

Despite reassurances from her father that she won’t be replaced as heir, Aegon and Daemon both have legitimate claims and plenty of support whereas Rhaenyra has none.

6. Lord Lyonel Strong

Lord Strong keeps his place in the top ten thanks to his continued sound advice and diplomatic approach with the King.

7. Lord Corlys Velaryon

Corlys moves up a few spots thanks to his and Daemon’s eventual victory in the Stepstones; however, it has come at a great cost. Also, seeing as how Tyland seems to have taken Corlys’ spot on the small council, there’s no guarentee that the Sea Snake will be welcomed back with open arms.

8. Tyland Lannister

Speaking of Tyland, he debuts in the top ten because of his admittedly precarious role on the small council. He also seems to be co-head of one of the greatest houses in Westeros.

9. Princess Rhaeyns Targaryen

Despite not making an appearance, Rhaeyns holds onto her spot in the top ten by association to Corlys and his successful conquest.

10. Grand Maester Mellos

No appearance.

11. Lord Lyman Beesbury

No appearance.

12. Ser Criston Cole

Ser Cole moves up a spot thanks to his growing relationship with Rhaenyra.

13. Lord Hobert Hightower

Hobert moves up a spot thanks to a brief appearance to remind everyone that he’s a part of the royal family now.

14. Ceira Lannister

Presumably the matriarch of the Lannister family and perhaps mother of Jason and Tyland.

15. Jason Lannister

Presumably co-head of house Lannister alongside his twin brother, Tyland. Not listed higher up due to the double rejection by Rhaenyra and Viserys.

16. Laenor Velaryon

Corlys’ son actually seems like a decent warrior AND he rode a dragon!

17. Lady Leana Velaryon

Despite not making an appearance, Leana moves up the rankings by association, much like her mother.

18. Vaemond Velaryon

Corlys’ younger brother and “master of complaints” according to Laenor.

19. Ser Harrold Westerling

No appearance.

20. Ser Addam Velaryon

Presumably a trusted member of the Kingsguard, so much so that Viserys trusted him to deliver a message to Daemon, who then proceeded to attack him with a helmet.

21. Lord Boremund Baratheon

No appearance.

21. Lord Rickon Stark

No appearance.

21. Ser Harwin Strong

Oldest son of Lord Lyonel Strong. Known as “Breakbones.”

21. Larys Strong

Youngest (and crippled) son of Lord Lyonel Strong.

21. Howland Sharp

Targaryen soldier of sorts. Let’s call him “Master of Hunting” for now.

21. Lady Joselyn Redwyne

Possibly head of house Redwyne.

21. Samwell

A musician that was somehow caught in the middle of power tussle between the Queen and the Princess.

21. Captain Randyll Barret

No appearance.

21. Septa Marlow

No appearance.

21. Lady Rhea of the Vale

No appearance.

21. Ser Gwayne Hightower

No appearance.

21. Ser Desmond Caron

No appearance.

21. Ser Rymun Mallister

No appearance.

21. Mysaria

No appearance.

N/A. Prince Aegon Targaryen

The King’s first-born son and favorite to be named heir. He is 2 though so I’m not sure what to do with him…

Dead

Craghas Drahar

Literally sliced in half by Daemon.

Prince Baelon Targaryen

Died a day after his birth. “Heir for a day.”

Queen Aemma Targaryen

Died during childbirth.

King Jaehaerys Targaryen

Died roughly 9 years ago. Succeeded by King Viserys.
