House of the Dragon S1E2 Power Rankings

Posted on September 5, 2022September 8, 2022 By Yaseen

1. Ser Otto Hightower

Otto’s scheming sees him take top spot after successfully managing to get the King to marry his daughter while maintaining the appearance of a concerned friend. Otto is clearly looking out for himself, but the King is yet to see that and as a result, Otto still has the absolute trust of the King. However, Otto is playing a dangerous game and all it takes is one misstep for him to lose his influence or worse, to lose his life.

2. King Viserys Targaryen

Viserys still has an unwavering grip on the Iron Throne, but his decision to shun Leana in favor of Alicent has alienated him from Corlys, Rhaenyra, and other important allies. The situation in the free cities is making him look weak as well.

3. Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen

After spending much of the episode marginalized, Rhaenyra defies her father’s orders to confront Daemon and successfully get him to stand down without any bloodshed where Otto would’ve certainly failed. However, her father’s surprise announcement to marry Alicent threatens her position as heir to the throne and also serves as a betrayal by the two people closest to her.

4. Lady Alicent Hightower

As expected, Alicent manages to win favor of the King and a marriage is now on the cards. The only reason she isn’t higher up this list is because much can happen between now and then, although I fully expect them to get married and for her to give him a son.

5. Prince Daemon Targaryen

Daemon would’ve had a much better episode had Rhaenyra not stepped in and defused the situation. Up until then, his plan to provoke Viserys was working to perfection but after standing down to Rhaenyra, he ended up looking like a child who’s lashing out. His meeting with Corlys to close out the episode is a reminder that he remains a key player.

6. Lord Lyonel Strong

Lord Strong moves up a couple places simply because he didn’t have a bad of an episode as those below him. Even though the King didn’t heed Strong’s advice, it’s clear that he does in fact value his council.

7. Grand Maester Mellos

Similarly to Strong, Mellos moves up the list because he had a better time than others. Mellos’ knowledge of the King’s conditions shouldn’t be discounted either.

8. Lord Lyman Beesbury

Beesbury moves down a place not because of anything he did, but because he didn’t do much. His insistence on not going to war against the free cities has so far been upheld by the King, but other than that it was an uneventful episode for him.

9. Princess Rhaeyns Targaryen

The King shunning Rhaeyns and Corlys’ proposal for him to marry their daughter, Leana, was extremely damaging and humiliating. Rhaeyns’ comments towards Rhaenyra don’t do her any favors either.

10. Lord Corlys Velaryon

If there was one person who had the absolute worst time in this episode, it would be Corlys. His fleet is under attack and the King refuses to act. Then, his attempt to consolidate power by marrying his daughter to the King is completely rebuffed. The only reason he doesn’t plummet further down this list is because of his position, wealth, and mild favor with Daemon.

11. Craghas Drahar

Despite not appearing in this episode, the Crabfeeder moves up a spot by virtue of his increasing influence in the seas.

12. Ser Harrold Westerling

Becoming the new Lord Commander of the Kingsguard would normally be enough to see Ser Harrold move up a spot or two, but for now he has to settle for not moving down a spot.

13. Ser Criston Cole

Much like Ser Harrold, Ser Criston’s promotion to knight of the Kingsguard would normally see him go up the list, but there’s simply no room for him further upwards.

14. Captain Randyll Barret

No appearance.

14. Septa Marlow

No appearance.

14. Lady Rhea of the Vale

No appearance.

14. Lord Boremund Baratheon

No appearance.

14. Lord Hobert Hightower

No appearance.

14. Lord Rickon Stark

No appearance.

14. Ser Gwayne Hightower

No appearance.

21. Ser Desmond Caron

Despite being a knight from a noble family, Rhaenyra’s denial of him to the Kingsguard in favor of a commoner was a bit insulting.

21. Ser Rymun Mallister

Despite also being a knight from a noble family, Rhaenyra’s denial of him to the Kingsguard in favor of a commoner was a bit insulting.

23. Lady Leana Velaryon

Leana gets denied a marriage to the King, so that’s naturally detrimental to her power rating. However, she is 12, so who’s the real winner here?

24. Mysaria

Mysaria was caught off-guard by Daemon announcing his intention to marry her even though he hadn’t even told her yet. She’s worried about her safety and rightly so.

Dead

Prince Baelon Targaryen

Died a day after his birth. “Heir for a day.”

Queen Aemma Targaryen

Died during childbirth.

King Jaehaerys Targaryen

Died roughly 9 years ago. Succeeded by King Viserys.
