1. There’s more to the story.
The finale resolved the main questions of the season whilst also successfully introducing new ones. Someone’s been stalking Wednesday this entire time, and they aren’t exactly doing so out of admiration. Weems’ death leaves a gap that will surely be filled come next season. A new principal and students will create a much different dynamic at Nevermore than the one seen over the course of this season. A new mayor will also have a significant effect on Nevermore. Characters like Tyler and the sheriff will have to contend with new realities. Ultimately, the decision to kill off key characters has allowed the writers to reset the playing field dramatically.
2. Ms. Thornhill is Laurel Gates.
My initial instinct was correct in thinking that Thornhill is Laurel, credit to the writers for building up Dr. Kinbott as a convincing decoy. Eugene’s tip about the perpetrator wearing red boots was the final puzzle piece that Wednesday needed to finally solve this mystery. Laurel was surprisingly cold-blooded in her pursuit of revenge, she even managed to successfully execute her sophisticated plan. Even so, she was ultimately thwarted by the very outcasts she hates so much. With Tyler out on the loose, she might just get a second chance.
3. Tyler knew what he was doing.
There was a question around whether the person behind a Hyde is conscious of their actions or not, that question was definitively answered in Tyler’s case. However, the question of accountability remains after Laurel confirmed that a Hyde obeys its master unconditionally. Tyler may have come to enjoy the devastation he causes, but he wouldn’t have been in this situation had Laurel not unlocked the Hyde in him. He is responsible for his actions, but others hold some accountability as well. Laurel is obviously complicit, but to a smaller extent, so is the sheriff. He knew his son could’ve been a Hyde all this time and he did nothing about it. Someone better call him out on that next season…
