1. Wednesday doesn’t know when to stop.
Much can be said about the gravity of the situation Nevermore and the rest of the town find themselves in, but ultimately, there’s no excuse for how poorly Wednesday has treated her friends. They’ve put in a massive effort to support Wednesday in any way they can, and she’s consistently repaid that faith by manipulating and using them to advance her ulterior motives. Honorable as her motives may be, would it hurt to be a bit more transparent? The reality is that Wednesday is so focused on this investigation, perhaps to the point of obsession, that she doesn’t factor anything else into her decision making. Her failure to recognize the limits of those around her leads to her eventual isolation.
2. Laurel Gates is alive.
This was hinted at in the previous episode and all but confirmed in this one after Wednesday and Enid discovered that Laurel’s room is the only room in the Gates mansion that isn’t abandoned. There’s a tiny chance she’s dead and someone is doing this in her “honor,” but in all likelihood, she’s alive and has returned to avenge her family. It really seemed like they were setting up Thornhill as Laurel, but after this episode, Dr. Kinbott is the new favorite. She matches the appearance of the girl in the portrait, and there’s absolutely no way the flowers she brought Eugene matching those in Laurel’s room is a coincidence.
3. Everything is connected.
To some extent, we knew that these storylines would converge, but this episode make it clear that everything going on is connected with Wednesday at the center of it all. The monster is literally stashing body parts in the basement of the Gates mansion while Laurel sleeps upstairs. The mayor and Eugene both got too close and found themselves attacked almost immediately. Rowan was murdered after going after Wednesday on the basis of a decades-old drawing from his mother. Morticia killed Garrett thirty years ago after he was ordered to kill all the outcasts by his father. These are all pieces of the still-unsolved puzzle that is Jericho.
